BMW R 1300 R: the new naked boxer
All of BMW’s motorcycles with the twin-cylinder boxer blocks are coming up for grabs. The 1,250cc version clears the field for a 1,300cc. The block is stronger and lighter. In late 2023, the R 1300 GS bit the bullet and now the curtain has been pulled back on the R version. Starting this summer, it will be at dealerships. The price starts at 19,690 euros. The BMW R 1300 RT and R 1300 RS will follow later.
BMW R 1300 R: sportier
The new BMW R 1300 R is a dynamic roadster with boxer engine that looks and rides sportier than its predecessor R 1250 R. The styling is more athletic. BMW wants to advance both technically and visually with this engine. This is especially evident in the Performance variant. Among other things, it has sports suspension, adjustable footrests, sports tires and an engine spoiler.
Four colors and variants
The R 1300 R is painted in Snapper Rocks metallic as standard. Other options include:
- Racing Blue metallic (Exclusive)
- Lightwhite uni (Performance)
- Blackstorm metallic (Option 719 Kilauea)
Sporty seating position
The handlebars and footpegs have been adjusted for a more active seat. You sit slightly forward, giving more control during sporty riding. Still, according to BMW, it remains comfortable for touring – even with a passenger. Various buddyseats and handlebars are available to adjust the seating position.
Smart luggage system
The optional cases (26 and 29 liters) are equipped with lights, electrically lockable and have a USB-C port. The new tank bag snaps on without straps via a tank ring.
Most powerful BMW boxer engine ever
The engine measures 1,300 cc and produces 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm. This makes it the most powerful boxer engine ever in a BMW serial model. The engine runs smoother, more efficiently and climbs smoothly in revs (max. 9,000 rpm) compared to the R 1250 R with its 136 hp and 143 Nm.
Driving modes and safety
Standard driving modes are Rain, Road and Eco. Optional dynamic modes Dynamic and Dynamic Pro are available. Also present: engine brake torque control (MSR) for extra stability when downshifting. With the optional Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), you can shift fully automatic or manual, without clutching yourself. This increases driving convenience.
New frame: lighter and stiffer
The steel main frame is more compact and rigid than before. The new aluminum rear frame and more compact block provide a lower center of gravity. This makes the bike more agile and stable. Up front there is a new upside-down front fork, behind EVO Paralever II with a stiffer linkage. The new cast 17-inch wheels are 1.4 kg lighter, providing better handling.
Electronic suspension
With Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA), not only the damping, but now the spring rate changes depending on riding style, loading and riding mode. This is the world’s first motorcycle with a telescopic fork that can do this.
Powerful brakes
As standard you get radial four-piston front calipers, combined with Integral ABS Pro. Those who want even sportier can opt for the optional sport braking system. The optional Riding Assistant offers Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Frontal Collision Warning (FCW) for added comfort and safety.
LED lighting and adaptive headlight
The octagonal LED headlight has a recognizable light pattern. With Headlight Pro, the dipped beam steers with the curve for better visibility. New is an electrically lockable holder for navigation systems or smartphones. No more need for a key – convenient and secure.
