BMW 5 Series Touring 2024

The new BMW 5 Series Touring has an athletic side view defined by a high shoulder line, powerfully shaped rear wheel arches and two precisely placed character lines. Completing the look is a roof spoiler and a sleek D-pillar. Compared to its predecessor, the new BMW 5 Series Touring is 97 millimeters longer (5,060 millimeters), 32 millimeters wider (1,900 millimeters) and 17 millimeters higher (1,515 millimeters). The new BMW 5 Series Touring has the longest wheelbase in its class, with an increase of 20 millimeters to 2,995 millimeters.

Front Design

The striking front end features a modern interpretation of the distinctive dual headlights and iconic BMW kidney grille. Two vertical LED elements serve as turn signals and daytime running lights, respectively. The BMW kidney grille, which extends far forward, features optional BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille lighting. The taillights on the new BMW 5 Series Touring are characterized by the familiar L-shape. The side sill and rear bumper both have a dark finish at the bottom that makes the entire body look lower. This gives the car a sporty silhouette.

Various possibilities

The paint range includes three BMW Individual exterior colors from the start of production. Standard equipment on the new BMW 5 Series Touring includes 18-inch alloy wheels for the Mild Hybrid gasoline and diesel models and 19 inches for the all-electric and Plug-in Hybrid models. Optional alloy wheels up to 21 inches are available. The dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series Touring can be further emphasized with the M Sport Package, M Sport Package Pro and M Carbon Exterior Package. As the top model in the series, the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring comes standard with exterior components that clearly express its outstanding driving dynamics.

Interior BMW 5 Series Touring 2024

At the heart of the progressive, driver-focused interior design is the BMW Curved Display. The 12.3-inch information display and the control display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches form a fully digital cockpit. The modern premium atmosphere in the interior is further enhanced by the new sports seats with seat heating fitted as standard, the steering wheel, which is now flatter at the bottom, and the optional BMW Interaction Bar. The BMW Interaction Bar is standard on the electric variants of the BMW 5 Series Touring.

Vegan interior

The new BMW 5 Series Touring has a fully vegan interior as standard. The seat surfaces in Veganza are also optionally available with a decorative perforation. There is also an optional choice of BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery in several two-tone variants. Other highlights of the optional equipment program include the glass panoramic roof, Crafted Clarity controls and the Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System with up to 18 speakers.

Luggage space

A wider opening in the luggage compartment combined with a low sill makes it easy to store large items of luggage. Regardless of their powertrain technology, all variants of the new BMW 5 Series Touring have a boot volume that can be expanded from 570 to 1,700 liters. In addition to automatic operation of the tailgate, it is also standard to fold forward the backrest of the 40:20:40 rear seat from the luggage compartment. Storage compartments under the luggage compartment floor provide space for the luggage compartment divider net, luggage compartment cover and charging cable for the all-electric and Plug-in Hybrid models. The separately opening rear window is gone.

All-electric BMW i5 Touring in two variants

The new BMW i5 Touring is the first all-electric premium station wagon in its class. From the beginning, two versions are available. In the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring, two powerful electric motors on the front and rear axles combine to produce a system output of up to 442 kW (601 hp). When M Launch Control or M Sport Boost is activated, system torque is temporarily increased from 795 Nm to 820 Nm. The top model accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 230 km/h. The electric motor of the BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring is located on the rear axle and generates a maximum output of 250 kW (340 hp) and maximum torque of up to 430 Nm with Sport Boost or Launch Control function. The BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.

Battery

In both models, the battery pack has a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. In addition to efficient electric motors, adaptive recuperation and heat pump technology for heating and cooling the interior and drivetrain contribute to the range of the BMW i5 Touring. The range based on the WLTP test cycle is up to 506 kilometers for the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring and up to 560 kilometers for the BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring.

The high-voltage battery can be charged with DC direct current up to a maximum output of 205 kW. Anticipatory thermal management for the high-voltage battery optimizes efficiency when using fast charging stations. The BMW i5 Touring is also suitable for Plug & Charge at suitable charging stations.

Also as a mild-hybrid diesel

All diesel engines available for the new BMW 5 Series Touring are combined with 48-volt Mild Hybrid system and an eight-speed BMW Steptronic automatic sport transmission with shift paddles behind the steering wheel. The four-cylinder in-line diesel engine of the BMW 520d Touring available at market launch generates a maximum output of 145 kW (197 hp) and maximum torque of 400 Nm. By customer request, this model is also available with BMW xDrive all-wheel drive in the form of the BMW 520d xDrive Touring. Expansion of the powertrain portfolio will follow in the summer of 2024 with a Plug-in Hybrid variant and a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine. The BMW i5 Touring and Plug-in Hybrid models always have air suspension on the rear axle as standard, including automatic level control.

M stuff

The M Sport suspension, an M sport brake system and the Adaptive Suspension Professional (standard in the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring) with electronically controlled shock absorbers, integrated rear-wheel steering (up to 2.5 degrees) and new suspension dynamics are available as optional equipment. The M Adaptive Suspension Professional with Active Roll Stabilization and Active Roll Comfort is available as an option for the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring.
