Bizarre: this Volkswagen Golf GTI has steering wheel in the middle!
Volkswagen Golf GTI with steering wheel in the middle
This red 2005 Volkswagen Golf GTI looks quite ordinary at first glance. But he is different than you think. This is not just any Golf GTI, but a pretty unique specimen. Just look at the custom place for the driver.
Not left, not right
In this Volkswagen Golf GTI, the steering wheel is mounted not on the left and not on the right, but centrally in the middle of the dashboard. Like the aforementioned McLaren F1 and McLaren Speedtail, you can sit in the middle of the German cockpit. Fortunately for the driver, the pedals, handbrake and steering column have also been modified.
Two dashboards
What a major renovation that must have been. Remarkably, a dashboard has been bolted to either side of the steering wheel. The exposed wiring and unfinished parts of the interior betray that this project is not yet complete.
Thoroughly tackled
It happens more often that “ordinary” cars are converted in such a way that they begin to resemble – in the eyes of the owner – a supercar. However, it is rare that this also involves a thorough change in the seating position. Don’t ask us what was going on in the mind of the creator of this project. We don’t know either.
Are you curious about this Volkswagen Golf GTI? According to the bidder – from Berg en Dal in Gelderland – it has run just 98,000 kilometers. The asking price seems modest, but before you gasp: this car has been sitting in the barn for five years waiting to be completed and has not been inspected at the RDW since the thorough modifications. In short: reflect before you begin! Price tag? 4,000 euros.
