Big savings: this is what the updated Volkswagen Golf R costs
Solid price
It is no longer news: gasoline cars with lots of power and high CO2 emissions are incredibly expensive in the Netherlands due to the BPM system.
For the renewed Golf GTI with 195 kW (265 hp) you therefore pay a minimum of 61,990 euros.
The starting price of the even more powerful updated Golf R?
No less than 81,990 euros.
4.7 seconds
Under the hood of the powerful hatchback is a 245 kW (333 hp) 2.0 TSI turbocharged engine.
Unlike the Golf GTI, power in the Golf R is sent not only to the front wheels, but via a DSG automatic transmission and the 4Motion system to all four wheels.
While the GTI accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, the R completes the job in just 4.7 seconds.
Performance package
The limiter only intervenes at 270 km/h because the Performance package is included as standard in the Netherlands.
The package also includes a Drift mode and special settings for the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
Driving modes such as Eco, Comfort, Sport, Race and Individual allow you to adjust the car according to your mood or road conditions.
The new, lightweight Warmenau rims and the optional titanium Akrapovič exhaust system add an extra sporty touch to the car.
In addition, the Golf R comes standard with an electronic limited slip differential, sports suspension, Dynamic Chassis Control (DSC) and R Performance Toque Vectoring.
Tough and Stylish
The updated Golf R comes standard on 19-inch Estoril alloy rims and has sporty bumpers with unique accents, a black splitter and LED-matrix headlights with the familiar blue light strip and illuminated logo.
Inside, the sport seats with integrated headrests stand out, as does the sport steering wheel with blue details and large shift paddles.
The new infotainment system has grown to 32.8 cm screen and the digital instrument cluster offers several displays, including a special R look and a GPS lap timer.
The Dark Side: Black Edition
For those who like a dark, sinister look, there is the Black Edition.
This version has black 19-inch rims, large exhaust pipes, door mirrors and R logos.
Even the brake calipers and hub caps are finished in black.
The extra dark tinted rear windows and black headlights complete the dark picture.
The updated Golf R is now available for configuration and ordering, with a starting price of 81,990 euros, as mentioned.
The additional price for the Black Edition is 890 euros.
The first examples are expected in the Netherlands in September.
