Average purchase price of new passenger car breaks record!

48,118 euros in 2024

The average purchase price of a new passenger car rose to a sloppy 48,118 euros in 2024. This is partly due to the popularity of electric vehicles. SUVs remain by far the most popular, accounting for 50.3% of sales. Moreover, 70% of all new cars sold in 2023 were equipped with an automatic transmission.

Figures from previous years

In 2023, the average purchase price of a new passenger car was still 46,235 euros. In 2022 it was 43,006 euros and in 2021 it was 40,423 euros. Salient detail: in 1970, the average purchase price was only 3,389 euros. In 2000, it was 19,367 euros.

“The average purchase price of a new passenger car increased by 4.1% in 2024, to 48,118 euros. This increase is in line with the trend of recent years where prices are consistently increasing,” Mobility in Figures said.
