Already a millionaire five times over: the Mazda CX-5
Mazda CX-5 sold in more than 100 countries
Since its introduction in 2011, the CX-5 has become a global success. The model is now sold in more than 100 countries and regions. The crossover-SUV plays an important role within the Mazda lineup. Within the current model range, the CX-5 is the fastest-selling Mazda model.
First-generation CX-5
Production of the first-generation CX-5 began in 2011 at Ujina Plant No. 2 in Japan. The milestone of one million units produced was reached in April 2015. After 2011, Mazda expanded production capacity to include Ujina Plant No. 1, the Hofu Plant and production sites in China. In addition, local assembly takes place in Malaysia and Vietnam. Through this global production approach, the CX-5 grew to become the best-selling model within the current Mazda lineup.
Third-generation CX-5
In July 2025, Mazda presented the all-new, third-generation CX-5 in Europe. The European debut will be followed by market introduction in North America and Japan in spring 2026. In October 2025, the new model was on public display for the first time at the Japan Mobility Show, where a version to European specifications was shown.
Keeping CX-5 relevant
Koichiro Yamaguchi, program manager of the CX-5, speaks of an important milestone. According to him, the model has undergone significant development in eight years, but he also says Mazda intends to continue developing the CX-5 in the years to come, with the goal of keeping the model relevant to a broad group of motorists.
