Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato is a delightful two-door coupe

December 20, 2022

Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato

As the name suggests, what we have here is a Giulia that has been tackled by Italian automotive specialist Zagato. These have significantly shortened the Giulia’s wheelbase – that’s what SWB stands for, Short WheelBase– resulting in a sleek two-door coupe.

Alfa Romeo Tonale

On its nose are low-slung LED headlights familiar from the Alfa Romeo Tonale. On both sides of the iconic Alfa Romeo grille are large air intakes, and there are also a number of openings in the hood.

Aston Martin

On the side we detect a Quadrifoglio and Zagato badge. The rear is characterized by a thin LED strip, giving the car something akin to an Aston Martin. Not surprisingly, Zagato also enjoys working with the British carmaker. Of course, a bubble roof cannot be missing, a typical design element of Zagato.

Giulia Quadrifoglio

The donor car for this project was an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. Under the skin, the car has been upgraded to GTAm specification. This means that the model is powered by the biturbo 2.9-liter V6 gasoline engine, which in the GTam is good for 532 horsepower. The GTam comes with an automatic from ZF, but in the Zagato the driver gets to play with a six-speed manual transmission.

Birthday

With the Giulia SWB Zagato, the brands celebrate the 100th anniversary of their first collaboration. The project began in 2021, exactly 100 years after the Tipo G1, the first collaboration between Zagato and Alfa Romeo. For a while it looked like Zagato was going to build multiple examples, but sadly it remains just one. The unique Alfa belongs to a German customer who owns many special Alfa Romeo models, including an 8C Competizione, an SZ and also several Aston Martin Zagato’s.
