Alfa Romeo fully electric in five years
A few more years and then the era of gasoline engines at Alfa Romeo will definitely be over. An era in which the brand caused a furor with engines such as the 1300 “bialbero,” the “Busso” V6, the Twin-Spark and, of course, the 1750 TBi.
Alfa Romeo has announced that from 2027 it will sell only 100% electric models. That happened at the introduction of the Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid, the first Alfa you can charge with a plug.
The transition project is called “zero-to-zero,” as the Italian brand aims to transform itself in five years from a brand with no electrified cars at all (in early 2022) to an offering with only electric models (in 2027).
Since Alfa Romeo’s offering besides the Tonale consists only of the Giulia and Stelvio, it will not be a mega drastic change for the company and the dealer organization. A smaller SUV may also follow under the Tonale with the same technology as the Jeep Avenger. It is notable, however, that Alfa Romeo is suddenly in a great hurry, given that the ban on the sale of new fuel cars in the EU does not come into force until 2035.
