Adventurers beware: Jeep introduces Avenger 4xe and The North Face edition
Mont Blanc
What better place to unveil a new 4×4 than at the foot of Europe’s highest mountain? And that one happens to be partly in the country where Jeep has its European headquarters: Italy. The originally American brand, now part of the European Stellantis group, is based in Turin and feels almost like a local favorite in Italy. As soon as you cross the border, you see Jeeps driving around everywhere, from the Compass to the Wrangler. The Avenger is the brand’s most compact model and a truly European Jeep. Until now, it was only available with front-wheel drive, but that is about to change.
Jeep 4xe
Meet the Avenger 4xe: an Avenger with all-wheel drive. It shares the 1.2-liter turbo engine with integrated electric motor with the 100-hp E-Hybrid variant – which we recently tested – but the powertrain has received a power-up and is good for 136 hp. With that extra power, the Avenger 4xe reaches a top speed of 194 km/h and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds.
4×4
The Avenger 4xe also features an additional electric motor on the rear axle. This 28-hp unit needs no driveshaft – just a power cable – and drives the rear wheels, allowing the Avenger 4xe to call itself a true 4×4. Thanks to the cooperation between the three engines and the dual-clutch automatic transmission, the car can drive fully electric at low speeds.
Performance
Lovers of adventure outings are in for a treat. The Avenger 4xe is built to tackle rugged terrain with its all-wheel drive, increased ground clearance and improved driving angles. The car gets standard-mounted M+S tires, and All Terrain tires are available as an option. The extra rugged Avenger has a ground clearance of 210 mm and a fording capacity of up to 400 mm, which Jeep says makes it suitable for challenging off-road conditions. Whether it is, we’ll tell you early next year, when we get to get behind the wheel for the first time.
Custom chassis
The Jeep Avenger 4xe features not only a more powerful powertrain, but also an advanced suspension design. A major asset is the multilink rear suspension, which is normally only used in larger models. This suspension provides extra suspension travel and stability, which not only comes in handy on rougher terrain, but should also provide more comfort on the road.
Upland
The Avenger 4xe comes in two flavors: the Upland and the exclusive The North Face edition. The Upland stands out immediately with its tough roof rails and reinforced bumpers, good for a little extra protection on rough terrain. Inside, it’s all about practicality and durability. The seats are upholstered in washable materials that are twice as strong as ordinary upholstery. Ideal for adventurers who want to get the inside clean quickly after a day in the great outdoors.
The North Face edition
In collaboration with outdoor brand The North Face, Jeep has developed a unique edition of the Avenger 4xe. This special version, limited to 4,806 units (a nod to the altitude of Mont Blanc), is distinguished by an interior and exterior with mountain themes. Think topographic lines on the dashboard and custom-made floor mats with a 3D mountain profile. The collaboration goes beyond design: each model comes with an Exploration Pack, including a tent and other useful outdoor items. In the video below, see what other (orange) extras you get on this version:
Smart technology
The Avenger 4xe is more than just an off-roader. It offers modern gadgets such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen and digital cockpit, climate control and seat heating. The Selec-Terrain feature lets you choose from several driving modes, from snow to gravel. Add to that a 180° rearview camera and smart driving assistance systems, and you have an adventurous Jeep that stands its ground both in and out of town.
Order now
The Jeep Avenger 4xe can be ordered starting at 39,150 euros, and for the exclusive The North Face edition you will pay 44,150 euros. As mentioned, the latter model comes in a limited edition.
