According to a major study, drivers of these car brands are the most narcissistic
Narcissistic
Researchers commissioned by ScrapCarComparison – a British company that deals in scrap cars – asked more than 2,000 British motorists to complete a narcissism test. Their scores were compared with the brand of car they drive, the type of fuel, their place of residence and whether they have a personalized license plate. The latter, in fact, is possible in the United Kingdom. The test measured traits such as delusions of grandeur, a lack of empathy and the belief that the world revolves around you.
BMW
Who scores the highest? If you drive a BMW, chances are high that you exhibit narcissistic traits, according to the study. The average score? 14.4 on a scale of 40. Volvo drivers stuck with a neat 7.1 – a difference almost as big as the grille of a BMW X7.
Following BMW are Mercedes-Benz drivers (12.3) and – surprisingly – Honda drivers (12.0). Audi and Fiat complete the top five. At the bottom of the list, in addition to Volvo, are Skoda (7.4) and Renault drivers (7.6). On the contrary, they come across as modest types in this survey.
Electric driving: good for the world and for your ego
You would think that people who drive electric would think primarily of the environment. I’m sure that’s partly true, but they also tend to think about themselves. EV drivers appear to score the highest average score of all fuel types: 14.2. This puts them dangerously close to the BMW driver in the ranking of complacency. Gasoline and hybrid drivers both sit at 10.2. Diesel drivers finish as the least narcissistic group with a score of 9.8.
Personalized license plate number
The possibility of introducing personalized license plates in the Netherlands was discussed in the Lower House just last year. The PVV hopes to bring in substantial money with this. In the United Kingdom it has been possible for years. Some plates sell for millions of pounds. You guessed it: people with such a personal license plate score high on the narcissism scale, with a score of 15.9. That’s almost twice the average score of motorists with standard license plates (8.9).
