A2 goes under the knife: on these days it’s better to work from home

August 14, 2024

What’s on the schedule?

The A2 is in need of major maintenance.
The current asphalt needs to be replaced, and since they are busy anyway, Rijkswaterstaat is laying quieter asphalt straight away.
That means less noise for local residents and a road that can last for years again. Rijkswaterstaat is also going to refurbish the Jan Blankenbrug.
The result?
Five weekends full of closures and many nights with fewer lanes.

When can you expect the closures?

From August 14 you can expect more traffic jams around Utrecht.
Between junction Oudenrijn and Everdingen, Rijkswaterstaat is laying fresh asphalt and lanes will be closed.
During the work, the A2 towards ‘s-Hertogenbosch will be closed for five weekends.
From 15 to 19 August and from 29 August to 2 September between junction Oudenrijn and Vianen, and from 22 to 26 August, 6 to 9 September and 20 to 23 September between junction Oudenrijn and junction Everdingen.
3 of the 5 weekends the A2 is already closed from Thursday evening.

In addition, 8 night closures will take place, and on weekdays, fewer lanes will be available both during the day and at night from Oudenrijn interchange to Everdingen interchange.
The extra travel time can amount to more than 60 minutes.
Rijkswaterstaat is urging people to stay home or work from home when possible during the works and to travel together or travel differently.
